Patient Participation Group

The next meeting is on Tuesday 4th September 2018 at 6.30 p.m.

Patient Update May 2018 (Next one due in August)

Please find following the latest update on what is happening at the practice.

Care Quality Commission (CQC)

As mentioned in the February update, after our CQC inspection in November we were rated as ‘Good’ (of the 5 key areas measured, 4 were good and 1 was a needs improvement). The inspector was very pleased with the progress we had made and felt that we just missed out on 5 out of 5 on the key areas, therefore, she visited again at the beginning of March and gave us 5 out of 5.

Both reports are in the waiting room.

Dr Sue Mills has formally given notice that she will be stepping down as a partner in May 2019. In preparation, she will be reducing her sessions from 1st August 2018 to work Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Dr Sue has been a huge asset to the practice and will be sadly missed (we are hoping that she will come back and do odd sessions for us).

We still haven’t been able to recruit a new GP and are still using sessional GPs. In August we have Dr Stefano Capozzi a GP Registrar joining the practice for a 12 month assignment.

This month Mohammed Asif Ali a pharmacist joined the practice in a voluntary capacity working two days per week. He is working towards becoming a pharmacist practitioner.

We have recruited some new staff: Jodie started in reception in April; Emils and Pauline who started in May and; Angela and Lorraine who will start in June. Thank you to Carrie and Lisa, agency staff who have covered during this recruitment period.

We would also like to give a big thank you to all the staff for the extra hours they have put in during this difficult time.

The new consulting room is complete and will be used from June. Modernisation work to Dr Ather and Dr Anjum’s room will start in June. A partition has been built behind reception to reduce the noise at the desk. The self-check-in has been moved to the lobby area.

New daylight LED lighting has been put in the reception and waiting areas, which has made a big difference to the look and feel of the practice.

Watch this space for more changes.

The new data protection rules came into force on the 25th May and although our practice already meets the required standard, some changes to policies and procedures had to be made. In reception we have a folder containing all our privacy notices, which can also be found on our website.

Patient Participation Group (PPG)

The next PPG meeting is on Tuesday 5th June at 6.30 p.m. Please come along and support it. Roger Kenward who was the inaugural chair stepped down at the March meeting and we are looking for someone to continue his good work.

Patient Feedback

Your feedback is really important to us because it helps us understand what you want and guides us to improve the services we offer. You can feedback using the Friends and Family cards at reception or via NHS Choices (please help us increase our rating on NHS Choices).

Thank you for your continued support.

Hove Medical Centrewas built in 1990 and prior to that the partnership practised from a surgery in Sackville Road and a branch surgery in Hangleton. The branch surgery was a tiny area in what is now the dental surgery next door!

Approximately 9,000 National Health Service patients are currently registered with the practice.

The current non-limited partnership provides general medical services under contract with NHS England, South (South East), York House, 18-20 Massetts Road, Horley, Surrey, RH6 7DE.

Hove Medical Centre is a training practice and is also involved in the teaching of students from Brighton and Sussex Medical School. The students are placed with the surgery at intervals throughout the academic year and you will always be asked if you are willing to have them present during your consultation.

We hope that you will find this new website helpful and that you will let us know if you have any ideas about how to improve it. The website is designed to be a simple and user- friendly guide to our services with some helpful links to other sources of help and information.
